Eternalism views time as an illusion—it is static and doesn't move; the past, present, and future are equally real, depending on the observer’s perspective and the frame of reference they choose.

In her works, Ivana Zankevich turns to this idea, capturing nostalgic images of the United Arab Emirates that seem to exist both in her memory and in her dreams of something that never happened. After conducting her research, including interviews with locals and working with archives, she presents her interpretation of the unexpected feeling of déjà vu that visited her during her first trip to this remarkable country.

The series of works presented in the collection reveals a cozy yet melancholic underside of a world of gleaming skyscrapers and luxury cars, a blend of multiculturalism and Bedouin culture, man-made creations, and encroaching nature. In this world, it's impossible to fully understand whether the city came to the desert or the desert reclaimed its own, but one thing is certain - this is the trace of humanity and its legacy, caught in a kaleidoscope of events.

The collection poses several questions to its viewers. What if time is just an illusion, a construct of our consciousness, and all our memories are merely a play of interpretation? Where is the line between the past and the future? Why can’t we remember the future? Now, we can ponder these questions as we observe Ivana’s landscapes of future memories of an unseen past.
